Next Volunteer Day - April 18/26

Mol Meala - The Honeycomb Hub

Welcome to the future of health - for you and the planet we call home 💚

Can Ireland really sustain itself? - YES!

Ireland was once a lush and temperate rainforest. This unique micro-climate gives Ireland a food growing advantage against other parts of the EU - but we’ve lost the plot.

Shipping in carrots, leeks, onions, apples and SO much more, when we can EASILY grow it all here is not only economically insane, it’s also irresponsible.

It’s all about to change for the people of SK and beyond...

THE LYRE GLASSHOUSE STORY

My name is Hayley, a blow-in from Canada, who's recently inherited the 2-acre glasshouse site. At the start of January '26 I finally started investing my time and energy into bringing 'Mol Meala' to life. Before inheriting the site, the glasshouse had a long and interesting history:

1976 - Úderás na Gaeiltect purchased the land (total of 6 acres) from my partner's grandparents and began the construction for the first acre of glass, what we now call, the "old house."

Landscape plants like native trees, shrubs, perennials and others were grown to start.

1982 - The second acre was erected, which we now call the "new house."

Plant production moved to indoors and tropicals, which required a boiler for each house to heat indoor pipes.

The timeline is unclear and the overlapping of plant production continued as various businesses pumped out annuals, tropicals and anything the market demanded, essentially.

Finally, the glasshouse landed on a very large project to grow and export shamrocks, including the reach all the way to the White House in the U.S.A.

2016 - The business went into receivership and privately purchased by my now in-laws giving the land and the glasshouse a full circle moment.

Since then, the site has sat neglected—until now.

With a new vision, we’re ready to breathe life into the glasshouse once more, but this time with the hopes of a more sustainable and health centered future.
